"Solid $100 watch for about $100. Not complaining" 2007-02-14
By Barry Reitman (Blooming Grove, NY United States)
Let's face it: Invicta's true genius is in marketing, not watches. Would I do it again. Proboably. This is a quality timepiece priced where it should be. First the pro/con list (followed by details):

Pro:

- Dependable Miyota Japanese 8205 automatic movement.

- Reasonably easy to read time, day and date.

- Solid, substantial stainless steel bracelet BUT I had to assemble it.

- Handsome (to my eye).

Con:

- Non-hacking (see details).

- Quality control at shipping point is offensive.

Description/Story: This was purchased to be an everyday watch. I was feeling guilty about using a Breitling Navitimer (be still, my ego) for a knock-around. My other watches, including a Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk, are high quality, but do not display the date visibly enough for my old eyes. After being intrigued by the hype for Invicta's 8926 with a Miyota 8215 date-only movement, I opted for this with its cousin 8205 day and date movement.

To hack or not to hack. Hacking, the ability to stop the sweeping second hand during setting is not available unless you allow the automatic movement to wind almost all the way down. Inexpensive automatic movements are not intended to be very accurate. (This one gains about ten seconds a day.) A hacking movement would allow the user to match it up to a precise source at the start of the day. (I knoow, I know. That's why the good Lord invented quartz movements. But, I just LIKE automatics AND a sense of accuracy.)

Quality Control: Sucks! The band was in several pieces inside the pretty yellow Invicta box. It was easily put together, but WTF? (This is not an Amazon problem. The watch forums are littered with complaints about this kind of Invicta QC problem.)

Bottom line: I got what I paid for, and I'd probably do it again. But forget the hype. The idea of Invicta watches being "collectable" is pure marketing hype.

"Ths is the watch I've been waiting for !!!" 2007-01-15

I was a little apprehensive before buying it because I didn't really know INVICTA; however I did my research and found out that it's a serious and reputable manufacturer. So I bought this watch it exceeded all my expectations. The movement is stable like a quartz watch, the watch looks like a million bucks, I'm a scuba diver and already used this watch in my last dive; overall it's unbelievable how satisfiyed I feel with this purchase. Top style, excellent quality, excellent performance and an unbeatable price. I'm so happy I went and bought one for my wife to match mine (the only thing is that the ladies version doesn't come with automatic movement). I also bought one as a gift for a good friend. I'm so happy with this watch that I'm going to approach INVICTA and see if we can get a representation of INVICTA watches for the caribbean; that's how good I feel about this watch. Now I'll never pay more than $500 for a fine watch again.
